For the visitor, New South Wales (N.S.W) is filled with a never-ending diversity of places to explore that range from the great rural places, to the snow-capped peaks of the snowy mountains to the coastal regions and not forgetting the exciting city of Sydney which all offer a range of historical experiences. Traveling north from Sydney we come across a number of scenic and beautiful destinations such as Coffs Harbour, Nelson Bay, Port Stephens, The Entrance and Forster. Moving along west you can travel over the blue mountain to rural New South Wales, where you can come across a number of small towns and regional cities such as Orange , Bathurst, Dubbo and Mudgee and many more. Travelling south we are led to a new set of coastal towns and cities such as Wollongong, Kiama, Bermagui and many other places along a road that takes you into Victoria. In 1700 Captain James Cook sailed along the east coast of Australia and was the first European to give New South Wales its name. Later Arthur Phillip arrived to Sydney in 1788 with the First Fleet to establish a convict settlement in Sydney. Since this time British colonizers have been initially living along the coast and then spreading inland creating rural towns and cities. Being the earliest colony, N.S.W is rich with History that encompasses a wide variety of themes such as early railway transport, convict life and prisons, colonial settlements, farming and country life, coal and gold mining industries, war and military history (that has its roots with the British empire) amongst many others. N.S.W is also well known for its Indigenous Aboriginal culture and peoples that inhabited these lands for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans. This webpage focuses on giving visitors advice on some of the historical landmarks that tourists can experience and enjoy while staying in New South Wales. ![]() |
